Welcome to

South Downs Garden Centre

South Downs Nurseries and Garden Centre specialises in growing those unusual, hard to find, plants and Heritage plants that are Sussex 'born and bred'.

Our undercover plant area is one of the largest in the country, while the garden centre stocks all your garden requirements.

We have many specialist departments such as angling, equestrian, pets and aqauatics - with skilled staff to help and advise.

Huge turnout for Santa!

THOUSANDS turned out to welcome Father Christmas as he arrived in Mid Sussex from the North Pole by helicopter. He touched down at the South Downs Nurseries on Saturday morning to a warm reception as crowds of children waved and cheered his arrival. Many arrived early to secure a front row place, while extra car parks had to be opened to cater for all those wishing to see Father Christmas arrive in style.

He handed out sweets before taking up residence in his special grotto, at the Hassocks garden centre and tourist attraction, where he will be on duty each weekend, during the late night extravaganza on. "The weather was exceptionally kind and we had a massive turnout", said garden centre manager Mark Hillyard. "Santa's novel mode of transport seemed especially popular, and not just with the children." Some people travelled a long way to be at the event, with at least one family driving especially from Hampshire.

Every penny he raises will be used by Burgess Hill District Lions to support local good causes. "We are very grateful to the Lions for making all this possible", said Jonathan Tate, managing director at South Downs Nurseries. "By working with them, we are able to support all the good work they do locally to help those in need."
