The Kingsale Hounds
The Kingsale Hounds
The Kingsale Hounds
Produced as a limited edition of one hundred pairs.

These Great Danes are in the style of the favourite hunting dogs of the 26th Lord Kingsale, John de Courcy b.1717. John is described as being addicted to hunting and the pleasures of the chase and lived at Old Head Castle at Kingsale, County Cork. Here he kept a pack of hounds for the hunting of deer and the few remaining wolves in Ireland and imported a pair of specially bred pedigree hunting dogs to help him deal with the wolves.  It is said that these dogs took part in the killing of the last wolf in Ireland in the 1760’s.

The Reposing Stag
The Reposing Stag
This fabulous piece depicting both beauty and tranquility was inspired by a lead stag which resides in the grounds of Bowood House in Wiltshire, England.

The Stag is one of a pair which takes pride of place on the steps leading from the formal gardens to the Orangey. The beautiful gardens were laid out by Capability Brown. The use of faux bronze for the antlers provides a pleasing contrast against the warm coloration of the stag’s body which is of reconstituted Somerset stone composition. Bowood House was purchased by the 1st Earl of Shelburne in 1754, and to this day, Bowood House remains the family home of his descendants.  Currently the home of the 9th Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne.

The Wild Boar
The Wild Boar
In ancient Greece the wild boar was widespread throughout the land.  Because of their strength, courage and ferocity, the wild boar symbolized a worthy adversary for the hunter and is strongly featured with the heroes of Greek mythology.

In Roman times, the large tusked wild boar (Cinghiale) was found in almost every country of the ancient Roman world and particularly so in Italy.

It is thought that the original boar was carved from marble during the centuries BC by a Greek sculptor.  This sculpture was either lost or destroyed.

During the 17th century the Italians made a marble copy ‘Cinghiale’ which is housed in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence to this very day.

The boar as seen here is a perfect likeness of the ‘Uffizi’ Boar, with the hair of the boar’s coat carved into large waving locks over the neck and shoulders with tighter more crowded waves over the body.

Also available is the exact mirror image of the Boar (the head turned in the opposite direction), which depending on location could be preferable, or of course they would make a splendid matching pair to any entrance or driveway.
